Hudson and Bateup Join Cricket Lineup
Hockey legend Nikki Hudson and Ironwoman Hayley Bateup have joined the list of celebrity players gearing up to take the field at this year's Stumping Serious Diseases event.
The athletes will put their skills to the test when they join team captains Adam Gilchrist and Wendell Sailor for a game of Twenty20 cricket that will have spectators on the edge of their seats.
Nikki, a former Hockeyroos captain, is expected to be a force to be reckoned with on the field. Making her debut for Australian in 1993, she led the Hockeyroos to their gold medal win at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
Hudson became the first woman to play 300 international Hockey matches for Australia at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Since retiring from international hockey in 2009, Nikki has appeared as a commentator for channels OneHD and Ten.
Hayley Bateup, arguably Australia's fittest female athlete, will also wow the crowd with her talents at the event. One of the nation's toughest Iron-women, Hayley is famed for her determination stamina. The Lifesaver is the only athlete (male or female) to win gold three times at the Iron-woman calendar's most gruelling event, The Coolangatta Gold. She also featured on Channel 7's Gladiators in 2008 as Nitro, the show's fastest competitor.
When she's not in the waves, Hayley Bateup is a respected media personality and personal traininer.
