SSD funds to assist paediatrics position

Over the past few years, with the establishment of the Graduate School of Medicine and Health and Medical Institute, dramatic steps have occurred to improve the health of our region.

Children's health, however, has still been heavily reliant on the services provided by Sydney-based hospitals. Although the University's Doctor Allan James has championed our children's helath for some 40 years, with his pending retirement urgent action needs to be taken.

With the support and advice of Dr James and a view to the future where the majority of health services can be undertaken in the region, bold new steps have been undertaken to address this problem. It is hoped that the potential employment of a Professor of Paediatrics will change the lives of our region's children and their families. The Professor of Paediatrics will be a dynamic leader with international standing in paediatric clinical care and research who will champion our children's health and be a vital asset to the region.

The University of Wollongong is proud to announce that a portion of the funds raised by its Stumping Serious Diseases event will be contributed to the funding of the Professor of Paediatrics position.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Health) Professor Don Iverson explains the position in the following video.
